Intermittent Fasting

Intermittent Fasting

by Serena Granzotto

intermittent fasting

Worldwide, obesity and diabetes continue to rise where they are now an epidemic.  Ongoing research and hypotheses attempt to solve these concerns however, are they investigating the root cause or are we just looking for a quick pharmaceutical or surgical fix?
A more recent therapeutic treatment to these health concerns is fasting. Fasting does not mean starvation. Fasting is the VOLUNTARY abstinence of food for health, spiritual or other reasons. Many religions, cultures and our ancestors all fasted at various times during the year; Lent, Ramadan; non harvesting seasons.  Now, it appears that the word “fasting” equates to “starvation” as opposed to a recovery and resting period for our body especially our digestive system.

Types of Intermittent Fasting

There are many types of fasting protocols.  Most of us have experienced fasting without ever planning or thinking about it. For example, working all day and skipping lunch or rushing in the morning and not having breakfast; maybe some of us follow a form of intermittent fasting (IF) – a time restricted eating and fasting pattern?
Intermittent Fasting is not a diet. It is a window of time you select to eat and fast in order to achieve your goals. There are many forms of IF. The traditional one; 12:12(fast for 12hrs and eat 3 meals in 12hrs). Currently, these are more popular:

  • 16:8 (16hrs of fasting and 8hrs of eating- basically skipping breakfast)
  • 20:4 (20hrs fasting and 4hrs eating-skipping breakfast and lunch) or
  • 24hrs (skipping all 3 meals).

Depending on your health goals, you will select the feeding and fasting times that work best for you.

Have a goal in mind

Prior to selecting and experimenting with a particular eating regiment, review your current health concerns and decide what do I want to change or improve? What is my goal?

I will provide weekly seminars which will educate you and assist you with your goal. The weekly seminars will explain the various fasting-feasting regimens and their purpose as well as an introduction to low carbohydrate high fat feasting.

“I follow a timed eating regimen to maximize fat utilization, prevent insulin resistance and optimize wellness.”  –your wellness educator Serena Granzotto

About Serena Granzotto..

“I am passionate about sharing my knowledge especially when it comes to promoting healthy living and illness prevention. The theories and rules we followed and are currently following re: eating are now being discredited.  The time of feeding and the type of foods is critical for wellness. The latest research states that we are eating constantly (5-6 times a day) and we are eating too much sugar.”
