Prenatal Breastfeeding Prep

How To Ensure Successful Breastfeeding – Prenatal Breastfeeding Prep

Did you know we offer appointments with our Lactation Consultant for BEFORE the baby is born?  One of the best ways to help a new Mom with a successful breastfeeding journey is being prepared.  This is a great opportunity to learn all the basics about positioning, how to know baby is getting enough milk, and the ins and outs of breastfeeding. Knowing what to expect and understanding the various stages can all lead to success.

All babies are born with an instinct to breastfeed, but this does not guarantee that breastfeeding will be easy.

There was a time when all women had a community to support them on their breastfeeding journey.  They would have been surrounded with sisters, cousins and friends who were all breastfeeding and helping one another through these early stages of motherhood.  Nowadays most women are seeing breastfeeding up close for the first time with their own babies.  Having the right support before and after birth can set you and your new baby on the path to a solid and successful breastfeeding relationship.  A mother who has ongoing, and face-to-face support before breastfeeding is more likely to start and continue breastfeeding.

Our lactation consultant is able to give you the advice that you need while pregnant to ensure you meet your breastfeeding goals. As well as leaving you feeling prepared for the ‘what-ifs’ of breastfeeding your newborn.

Breastfeeding and Pain

Many women often stop breastfeeding due to pain, learn why this happens and seek advice on how to prevent pain and to make your breastfeeding journey the most successful.

Discomfort during breastfeeding can be due to a variety of reasons.  Engorgement and blocked ducts can be a normal part of breastfeeding and a Lactation Consultant provides safe and natural remedies to help alleviate your discomfort.   An LC can help you determine the cause of your breast pain, and treat the problem accordingly.
