Shannon Burton registered paediatric social worker

Shannon Burton, MSW RSW is a registered paediatric social worker. She solely focuses on challenges related to children, youth and their families. Shannon pulls from her experience as a school board social worker/attendance counsellor, ER hospital paediatric social worker and community children’s mental health clinician/counsellor. She has devoted her learning and practice to the health and well-being of children and youth. Along with working directly with children, Shannon provides counselling to parents seeking guidance, resources, and strategies for a number of parenting-related concerns.

Therapy and Children

While “talk therapy” is highly effective when working with adults, its necessary to use creative outlets of communication when working with children. Its imperative as a therapist to fully understand each developmental age. Shannon uses a variety of therapy-related tools when working with children, such as music, drama, art, play, sand tray, movement and yoga techniques. All of which are integrated into Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Motivational Interviewing and Solution Focused models.
